How to identify mice in your home.
Mice are intelligent creatures that carry disease and can be very tricky to eradicate. Here are some signs to look for when trying to identify a mouse infestation.
Mice are most active at night so you may hear signs of movement or scratching in walls and ceilings. They often make their way into homes by following pipes and emerging beneath kitchen units or by gnawing their way through flooring at wall floor junctions, check these areas for gaps or holes. Mice can squeeze through a hole the size of a five pence piece. Smear marks are dark shadows left on surfaces by the oily residue on mouse fur, these marks can often be found around holes or along routes frequented by mice. Mice leave around 80 droppings per day, and have poor bowel control, so you will often find a trail of small pellets. These droppings are dark brown and similar in size and shape, to a grain of rice. As rodent incisor teeth grow continually throughout their life they love to gnaw, evidence of this can often be found by way of gnawed wiring in lofts and riser cupboards. Foot prints and tail swipes may also be found in very dusty areas.
